Fall Wall Hanging Created During Pandemic

  • I completed this fall wall hanging during the lock down. The confetti foreground had been completed and sitting in a container.  I started out by using Nancy Zieman and Natalie Sewell’s book The Art of Landscape Quilting  for technique ideas.  They used glue sticks to attach the pieces but I didn’t find this to my liking so used misty fuse rather than steam-a -seam-2 to back my fabrics so the quilt  wouldn’t be too stiff.  I rough cut several fabrics for the distant leaves and made some detailed close-up leaves using inktense pencils. My figure was also painted using inktense pencils.

Book of Animals for Upcoming 1st birthday of my Granddaughter

I spent the month of January having fun working on an original book to give to my granddaughter, Madeline, on her upcoming first birthday, May 14. I used applique for most of the creatures and added a bit of background here and there with inktense pencils. I was especially pleased with my red cardinal made with inktense pencils.. I was not pleased with the fusible interfacing I used so if advising anyone, I would suggest backing the pages with a sew-in-interfacing. I used Avery printable fabric sheets to print the text. To hold the book together I made two sets of eyelets through each page and laced it together with cord.

Techniques in Applique

Perfect the use of fusible webs and the satin stitch and then move on to learn machine methods that look like hand applique. You will learn to use both freezer paper and dressmaker’s interfacing and to attach invisibly using the blind stitch. You will go home with a sampler of applique techniques.
