Creating a Landscape

 

Due to covid 19 workshops are postponed for the present time.

 Create a landscape using my pattern or design your own from your own photo or drawing. This can be quilted or stitched and framed.  Design considerations such as composition, depth, choosing colours to enhance perspective will be discussed.

Thread Painting Two

Due to the Covid 19 outbreak workshops are postponed at this time. Build upon the knowledge gained in Thread Painting One.  Design considerations will be discussed and expanded. Students will construct a landscape using appropriate fabrics and machine applique techniques. Machine embroidery techniques will be quickly reviewed and students will be encouraged to individualize their landscapes both in the construction and in the free motion embroidery stages. Methods for quilting the landscape will be explored.

Spend an afternoon playing with inktense pencils to create appliqué fabrics that can be used for flowers, leaves and much more. Learn some of the techniques I have developed for working with these pencils that turn to ink when a liquid is applied.

Article in the Canadian Quilter

There is an article in the Spring 2020 edition of the Canadian Quilter entitled Teaching Patchwork in the UK. Three Canadians, Rose Parr, myself and Bernadette Kent share our experiences of teaching at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham UK.

Using Inktense Pencils

Spend an afternoon playing with inktense pencils to create appliqué fabrics that can be used for flowers, leaves and much more. Learn some of the techniques I have developed for working with these pencils that turn to ink when a liquid is applied.

 

 

Thread Painting class

 Learn the basics of free motion embroidery using your regular sewing machine. Complete a sampler as you learn to make grasses, leaves,  flowers, weeds, trees, etc. You can spend the entire day perfecting your skills or start a simple landscape. Information on design will also be discussed.

Techniques in Applique

 Perfect the use of fusible webs and the satin stitch and then move on to learn machine methods that look like hand applique. You will learn to use both freezer paper and dressmaker’s interfacing and to attach invisibly using the blind stitch. You will go home with a sampler of applique techniques. Applique Cardinal or Chickadee

Create a beautiful chickadee  or cardinal appliqué block that can be used to make a table topper, block for a quilt, bag or anything you choose. Satin stitch appliqué by machine will be taught as well as a free motion edge. To register contact me at [email protected] or phone 506-363-3560.

 

 

Using Inktense Pencils to Create Applique Fabrics

Put your adult colouring skills to work and play with inktense pencils to create flowers and leaves that will be cut out and used to create appliqués. This is a fun workshop where you will learn some of the tricks for colouring realistic images of your choice and then adding water to turn them into beautifully shaded fabrics. After the appliqués are created, you will cut them out and fuse them to a background.
